Engineered flooring is more popular these days as it works better with underfloor heating. The boards are usually multi-ply up to the tongue with a real wood top. Although it still has to be installed in the correct environment, it is more stable than Solid wood.
Laminate flooring is a multi-layer synthetic flooring product fused together using a lamination process. Laminate flooring simulates wood with a photographic layer under a clear top layer (Wear Layer) on top of a core layer of MDF or HDF boards.
When cleaning your wood flooring we recommend you use a well rinsed flat mop. To keep your floor's wear layer or surface in top condition it is not advisable to use cleaning products containing chlorine, bleach or other harsh chemicals.....even on Laminate flooring as over time they will damage the wear layer on your floor. We also advise against the use of vinegar. Whilst vinegar is regarded as a highly effective cleaner , it is also acidic, which will damage your flooring over time.
In the US, the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) believes that Wood flooring is the most effective type of flooring to improve your indoor air quality. They report wood floors are hypoallergenic, which is a huge advantage to allergy sufferers. Wood floors do not harbour microorganisms or pesticides tracked in from outdoors as other flooring options can. They also minimise the accumulation of dust, mould and animal hair which improves the overall indoor air quality.
Wood flooring also improves your indoor air quality in another less tangible way. This is because wood is a carbon-neutral product. As most people know, as a tree grows, it takes in carbon dioxide from the environment and produces oxygen. What most people do not know however, is that products made from wood, including wood flooring, continue to store carbon during their service lives. In other words, even after the tree used to make the wood is cut down and manufactured into flooring, it continues to store carbon.
Wood flooring is also a recyclable material that can be used again and again.
